Share Your Insights. Influence Australia–China Dialogue.

The AustChina Institute (ACI) is inviting researchers, academics, policy professionals and industry experts to contribute evidence-based, balanced analysis on Australia–China relations by submitting their insights for publication on the ACI website. Alongside research produced by our core team, ACI is seeking contributions from external authors to broaden and diversify perspectives on the Australia–China relationship, as well as related foreign policy and international affairs issues. This initiative offers contributing authors an opportunity to share their expertise and actively shape public and policy dialogue on Australia–China relations.

Contributor Eligibility

We welcome submissions from contributors with expertise in foreign policy, economics, trade, geopolitics, diplomacy, China studies, or international relations, including:

  • Academics and researchers

  • PhD and Master's graduates

  • Policy professionals, practitioners and industry experts

Contributing authors may be based in Australia or China. Submissions from researchers affiliated with Chinese universities and think tanks are also welcome.

Please note that this is a voluntary opportunity. While ACI is unable to offer payment for article submissions, we ensure full attribution and visibility for all published contributions.

If you value rigour over rhetoric and can produce credible, research-driven analysis, we want to hear from you!

Submission Guidelines

We are seeking contributions that meet the following criteria:

  • Articles that are clear, well-structured and grounded in research and evidence.

  • Original content that demonstrates independent thinking and adds meaningful depth to public debate.

  • Writing that informs policymakers, business leaders and the broader public.

  • Referencing style may follow either Chicago Style (Chicago A) or inline hyperlinks to credible sources. Please ensure consistency in whichever referencing style you choose.

  • Articles should primarily focus on the Australia–China relationship and align with one or more of these research pillars:

    • Economy and Trade

    • Security and Geopolitics

    • Bilateral Relations

    • Technology, Science and Climate Action

Contributors may choose from one of two publication formats:

  • Insights Series (up to 1200 words): Short-form analysis of a recent event, an emerging development or a foreign affairs topic. View an example here.

  • Research Publication Series (1,600–3,000 words): In-depth coverage of a specific topic, policy challenge or research area. View an example here.

All articles will be published in English. Submissions in Mandarin are also accepted, provided an English translation is supplied.



AustChina Institute - Call for Papers

Call for Papers

Interested? Email your submission proposal to submissions@aci.org.au with the following:

  1. A 200–400 word outline of your proposed article

  2. Your preferred publication format (either "Insights Series" or "Research Publication Series") and relevant research pillars.

  3. A brief author biography and photo/headshot. These will be published together with your article.

  4. A disclosure statement outlining any relevant affiliations or the funding sources of your research, if applicable.

After receiving your proposal, ACI’s editorial team will review it and respond within two business days. Once approved, please submit your full draft as a Microsoft Word document to submissions@aci.org.au.

Final review and publication typically occur within 1 week to 3 weeks after receipt of your full draft, depending on the article length and quality of draft.

  • Editorial Support and Peer Review: ACI provides editorial guidance and peer review. "Insights Series" articles undergo internal peer review, while "Research Publication Series" articles may also undergo an external peer review, depending on the topic. 

  • Promotion of Your Article: Published articles are promoted through ACI’s social media channels, including LinkedIn and X. Search engine optimisations (SEO) will be applied to improve discoverability via Google and Bing.

  • Impact Beyond Academic Journals: Reach policymakers, practitioners and decision‑makers outside traditional academic paywalls.

  • Networking Opportunities: Contributing authors may gain opportunities for collaboration, speaking engagements, and policy engagement.

  • Digital Credential: Receive an official "AustChina Institute Contributing Author" digital badge — secure, shareable, and LinkedIn-compatible.

Copyright and Republishing Policy

At the AustChina Institute (ACI), we value our contributors’ work and seek to maximise its reach.

  • ACI holds copyright for articles published on its platform; however, authors retain full rights to republish their work elsewhere.

  • When republishing, authors must:

    • Include a link that refers to the original article on the ACI website.

    • Provide the following attribution: “This article was first published by the AustChina Institute.”
